In 1972, the Pensacola Historical Society began a publishing program under the direction of Virginia Parks and Elizabeth Vickers and the supervision of Norman Simons. Today, the Society has published many works detailing Pensacola's history that would not exist without the efforts of the Society.

Today the Pensacola Historical Society continues in the legacy started by Norman Simons by publishing Pensacola History Illustrated , which is a quarterly magazine. The publication of the Illustrated was temporarily halted due to the effects of Hurricanes Ivan and Dennis, but the Society is once again in the process of publishing the Illustrated. Watch for the rebirth of the Pensacola History Illustrated when the new Northwest Florida Heritage magazine hits the stands.
