History Fair

It is a goal of the Pensacola Historical Society to foster an appreciation for local history and the use of primary resources to explore and document issues and themes that have shaped this community's story from the time of the Native Americans through the present. The Pensacola Historical Society is proud to present the Mary and Holliday Veal History Award for outstanding historical research to students in the Pensacola area.

Mary and Holliday Veal History Award

Judging Criteria for the Veal Award:

  1. Projects should examine a topic on Pensacola history.
  2. Projects in all categories will be considered for awards.
  3. Student should use primary resources as part of bibliographic references.
  4. Student should understand and demonstrate how their project relates to the chosen National History Day theme.
  5. Presentation of topic should be clear and concise.
  6. Majority of work should be done by the student.

In the event there are no History Day projects that examine Pensacola history, regional and Florida history topics will be considered for the Mary and Holliday Veal History Award.

Representatives of the Pensacola Historical Society and the Veal Endowment will act as judges for this award. Students may be interviewed by the panel during judging.

Award winners will be asked to participate in a Membership Meeting of the Pensacola Historical Society in which they may share their project and research with the membership.
