The By-Laws of the Pensacola Historical Society were recently updated in order to bring the Society better cohesion between the Board of Directors , the Membership body, and Staff. These By-Laws were last revised in the1990's, so they were outdated and not representative of the Society today.
What are By-Laws?
By-laws are basically the constitution of the Society, which defines the major operational procedures and defines how the organization is governed.
Some of the changes include:
- The object of the Society was rewritten to better reflect the Society's contemporary goals
- High level memberships combined into the "Sustaining Member" category
- The organization and governance of the Society was completely rewritten
- Reduced the number of directors from 15 to 12
- Added a Code of Conduct for the Board of Directors
